Aviara Golf Club
Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad is San Diego’s only golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. Named the #1 golf resort in Southern California by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, and recognized as one of the country’s best resort golf courses by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine.
Aviara Golf Club features a memorable coastal layout: Uniquely sculpted around rolling hillsides and landscaped with wildflowers native to Southern California, the par 72 course offers plenty of bunkers and water features over 7,007 yards. Located twenty minutes North of Torrey Pines, host course of the 2021 US Open.
The Grand Golf Club at Grand Del Mar
This is your chance to experience the exhilarating magic of playing San Diego’s only Tom Fazio-designed course, with Los Peñasquitos Canyon as your sublime backdrop. Prepare for a masterpiece of dramatic elevations, diverse bunkering and lush fairways that ends with a stunning par 4 that plays over a stream to a waterfall finish. Commune with nature on our private 18-hole golf course—one majestic shot at a time.
“The number-one piece of feedback we hear is how beautiful the course is,” says Director of Golf Shawn Cox who oversees the 380-acre golf course that’s surrounded by lush landscaping and the beautiful bluffs of the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. “And the number-two thing that players say is that it felt like they had the whole course to themselves. What’s unusual is to have a topography where, when you’re on a particular hole, you don’t see a lot of the other holes, so it has the feel of being out in the country meandering through the hills.”

Golf and Adventure Travel Expeditions is happy to invite you to participate in a group event with our friends Mike and Rosie Savoia, at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines Resort, taking place July 10-16, 2025. Our office has had the pleasure of Mike and Rosie’s company on numerous golf trips over the years, so we were thrilled when they asked us to organize a 2025 summer visit to Torrey Pines, one of the most popular golf spots in the USA. The group size is limited to only (24) golfers and we already have (12) golfers registered. Join us for what will be a fun week playing four of the top courses in the San Diego area.
This 7 day / 6 night golf trip features the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines Resort as our base due to its proximity to the famous and scenic 36 holes of the Torrey Pines North and South Golf Courses. From your hotel room, you can easily walk to the pro shop at Torrey Pines in less than 5 minutes. The itinerary includes (4) rounds of golf which will be played on both the North and South courses at Torrey Pines as well as additional rounds at (2) premium selected clubs nearby. We are recommending that participants fly into San Diego International Airport (SAN), and rent a car for the week. The San Diego airport is less than a 25 minute drive from the Hilton hotel and self-parking is included for all participants at the hotel’s garage.
Torrey Pines Golf Course has been a regular stop on the PGA Tour for a long time (since 1968). Many golf fans remember that history was made at Torrey Pines in 2008 when Tiger Woods won the U.S. Open and his 14th major in a playoff over 5 days of competition. And Jon Rahm made a birdie on each of the final two holes to become the first U.S. Open champion from Spain and win his first major championship. Most of us have watched the pro golfers on TV as they hit their shots with the majestic Pacific ocean as a back drop. It's a wonderful setting for golf and certainly worth a visit for any golf fan. This is a trip you won't want to miss!

TORREY PINES STATE NATURAL RESERVE
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is a wilderness island in an urban sea. This fragile environment is the home of our nation's rarest pine tree - Pinus torreyana. Once this tree covered a larger area. It now grows only here and on Santa Rosa Island off the coast near Santa Barbara. The park preserves not only the trees, but also one of the last salt marshes and waterfowl refuges in Southern California. The reserve features high broken cliffs and deep ravines on headlands overlooking the ocean. Hikers can follow trails through stands of wind-sculpted pines. A picturesque, pueblo-style structure that served as a restaurant when it was built in 1923 houses the visitor center, featuring interpretive displays.
General Admission Day Use fee is $10-$25 per vehicle (demand based pricing) or a valid annual California State Parks Vehicle Day Use Pass. Pay at the Automated Pay Machine located near the entrance of the parking lot if no staff person is in the kiosk. Torrey Pines is one of the most popular State Parks in San Diego. As a result of this, Torrey Pines is very busy year-round. The hours between 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM tend to be the busiest hours of the reserve, so it is best to plan around these times! South Beach lot and the park road may be closed due to capacity. Consider parking in the North Beach Lot. General Admission Day Use fee is $10-$25 per vehicle (demand based pricing) or a valid annual California State Parks Vehicle Day Use Pass
Torrey Pines South Course
The South Course is often considered the more challenging of the two layouts at Torrey Pines due to the fact that it has hosted two U.S. Opens. It is also plays host to the final two rounds of the rounds Farmers Insurance Open. Playing the course, walking the fairways and putting the greens that so many of golf's greatest professionals have played over the years is considered a bucket list wish for many golfers.
What makes this course unique is that San Diego county owns and operates Torrey Pines. This means locals can play either Torrey Pines course for a low price while out-of-towners will have to pay a high green fee. Package the experience with a stay a 5 star lodge and we hope you'll think it's worth it!
