THE KING & BEAR GOLF COURSE
The only collaboration between golf's greatest legends, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus the King & Bear is set among pristine lakes, beautiful Loblolly pines, and stately oak trees in northern Florida. Each hole contains characteristics of both players to create a unique Jacksonville area golf course. When these two Hall of famers put aside their legendary rivalry, they created a beautiful, challenging, and truly remarkable golf course in St Augustine Florida. Measuring 7,279 yards from the stone tees and 5,119 yards from the green tees, this course is sure to challenge the skilled golfer while providing player-friendly conditions for the novice. This is a "driver's" course, which should come as no surprise as both Palmer and Nicklaus wielded awesome power games in their primes. You'll also experience the wide fairways of Nicklaus and the fast greens of Palmer. So enamored of the course he helped design, Arnold Palmer selected hole number 15 as one of his "Dream 18" in Sports Illustrated's Preview to the Ryder Cup 2006. We think you'll agree.

The Slammer & The Squire is an 18-hole, par 72, 7,000-yard championship resort golf course designed by Bobby Weed with design consultants "The Slammer" Sam Snead and Gene "The Squire" Sarazen. The course is the host site of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, a Senior PGA tour event. It features two distinct nines. The front nine meander through an old pine forest linked together with wetland corridors to protect the indigenous vegetation and wildlife. The back nine, bordering the World Golf Village, finishes with a breathtaking view of the World Golf Hall of Fame that towers above the 18th green. Our Spring event will be held at The World Golf Village in St. Augustine Florida, America’s oldest city. We had a very popular event here in 2010 and since it's been so long since we've visited it's time for the SFGA to make a return trip. We’ll stay at the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village which is the "Official Resort of the World Golf Hall of Fame" and a member of Golf Digest's Top 75 Golf Resorts and Conde Nast's Top 100 Golf Resorts lists. The resort is located just off I-95 and sits adjacent to The World Golf Hall of Fame and first tee of the Slammer & Squire golf course. This upscale hotel features 301 modern guest rooms surrounding a lavish sky-lit atrium, the Renaissance Resort welcomes you with bellhops dressed in traditional golf knickers, as well as its many amenities such as The Villagio Italian Grille and Lounge, the Murray Brother’s Caddyshack Restaurant, swimming pool and whirlpool spa, state-of-the-art fitness room with sauna, 24-hour business center and a full swing golf simulator.
Two rounds of tournament golf will be played on the World Golf Village’s Slammer & Squire and King & Bear Courses, featuring memorable par-5’s and par-3’s and nestled in with 200-year-old live oaks. The King & Bear course named for its co-designers, World Golf Hall of Fame members Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, is the first-and-only course design collaboration between two of golf’s most respected ambassadors. King & Bear is also rated among Golf for Women’s Top 50 Courses for Women. The Slammer & Squire named after Hall of Fame members Sam (The Slammer) Snead and Gene (The Squire) Sarazen is a 6,939-yard course that offers views of preserved woodlands, wetlands and natural beauty. Many of the games finest players have competed on these courses as they used to host the PGA/Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament . This is going to be a wonderful event and we hope to see you there!
